2020 Awards and Incentives Memo

Dear ASAP Members:

We have exciting news: we are bringing back the ASAP Awards and Incentives Program! The objectives of the Awards and Incentives program are to reward those who achieve notable accomplishments: to motivate others to excel in contributing to ASAP’s goals regarding access privacy and fair information laws, policies and practices: and to publicize the contributions of award recipients so that the public learns of their positive contributions and those of the Society.

The Board of Directors is seeking nominations for the ASAP awards noted below.

The President’s Award for Distinguished Public Service - the highest honor that the Society can grant, recognizing distinguished and sustained contributions in furtherance of the public interest within respect to access, privacy and fair information laws, policies and practices. The award consists of $1,000 donated to a scholarship fund, or research or educational program,

in the recipient’s name along with special recognition.

The Directors’ Award for Superior Public Service - the second highest honor that the Society can grant recognizing unusual excellence and special benefit to the public with respect to access, privacy and fair information laws, policies and practices, or superior contribution to the Society itself. The award consists of $500 donated to a scholarship fund, or research or educational program, in the recipient’s name along with special recognition.

The Meritorious Achievement Award - granted to a limited number of persons for services or achievement that contribute significantly to the purposes of the Society and recognizes sustained or extraordinary special service or achievement deserving high recognition.

Certificate of Appreciation - granted at the discretion of the president of the American Society of Access Professionals. You may submit names and the nominee’s contributions for the president’s consideration.

Full awards and procedural details are below. Please submit all nominations to ASAP@accesspro.org by April 1, 2020.

In addition to seeking award nominations, we are also seeking volunteers for:

1. Judging Panel – the three-person Judging Panel made up of members is chaired by the ASAP president (non-voting capacity). This panel reviews nominations for the President’s and Directors’ awards and comes to a unanimous decision. The time commitment is to read through the submissions, which may total from one to four, based on history, and a conference call, usually 30 minutes in length. The conference call must take place between April 2 and April 14.

2. Awards and Incentives Committee – committee members review nominations for the Meritorious Achievement Award and submit a recommendation to the ASAP Board of Directors. The time commitment is to read through the submissions, which may total from one to eight, based on history, and a conference call, usually 30-45 minutes in length. The conference call must take place between April 2 and April 14.

If you would like to be on one or both (Judging Panel or A&I Committee), please submit your name for consideration to asap@accesspro.org by March 13, 2020.

The 2020 award descriptions and procedures are detailed below. The complete details are also posted on our website at https://www.accesspro.org/awards-recognition/awards-incentives-program/ where you can see the list of previous honorees.

Let us know if you have any questions.
