Over the last two years, the dedicated FOIA professionals and nongovernment representatives on the FOIA Advisory Committee have worked together to identify some of the greatest challenges in the administration of FOIA, and to find common ground on ways to improve the process. On April 17th, the Committee approved its Final Report and Recommendations to the Archivist of the United States, which includes specific actions for the Archivist to take to address FOIA search technology, FOIA and accessibility, and FOIA performance standards and an extensive set of best practices to improve implementation.
Join us on May 1 for a special luncheon in ASAP's new headquarters to learn more about the Committee, and hear from some of its members. To discuss the Committee's functions, we will be joined by Amy Bennett of the Office of Government Information Services, who serves as the Committee's Designated Federal Officer. Tom Susman, a nongovernment member of the Committee, and Sarah Kotler of the Food and Drug Administration, will delve into the details of the Committee's recommendations, providing perspective and rationale, and then open the discussion for audience questions. We are also pleased that Committee Chair Alina Semo will be on hand.
